Writing Tips for You

This is more geared toward writing for an online business and sales
than it is for fiction writing.  However, there are general writing tips
on this page.

Writing is an art, there is no doubt about it.  Writing to people who
come to your sales page should be natural and should let your
personality show.  Writing in technical language will bore your
readers to clicking to somewhere else.  You don't want that, do
you?

Talk to them.  They want to hear what you have to say, but not
in college terms.  Just normal language.

Go ahead and dare to use words like  Hey, how are ya?
However, you must use discretion.  If you are not a Hey, how
are ya, person... then don't use it.  Use yourself.

People want to be pulled into your conversation, even though
technically they can't answer back, they can still feel part of your
conversation.

Use benefits in your writing. When you are selling something, you
are sharing things you enjoy. Right?  Well, share.

Hey, I saw a great movie last week, have you seen it?
If you like movies that just stir your soul, and give you a feeling
of satisfaction at the end.... watch Shawshank Redemption.

Did I sell? Well, it depends on if you like that kind of movie, or
not. I couldn't stop watching it the first time I saw it. It was long,
and it moved slow... yet, I couldn't stop watching it.

I'm normally The Fugitive kind of person or The Client. Basically, movies that have a lot of action and characters that you just
want to see win.

I love Dove soap, it's so soft and smooth and smells good.
Did I make any money? ... NO ... Did I share? ... YES ...

That is all you are doing when you tell someone about a product.

So, when you believe in your product, for goodness sake tell about
it in your own words and share it with the exuberance that you
feel it takes to convey to another person that they just gotta
have it!

Keep your paragraphs short. On the average, most people do not want to read long text.

Do tell about your product, and at the end, summarize with the
benefits that will add power to what you have said.

Use words like:  You, your, powerful, astounding, useful, savings,
bargain.

When you are writing, check and double check your spelling and
grammar.

Here are some very common grammar mistakes.

There, their, they're
They're over there. It's their 10th anniversary.

its, it's
The jar is not mine, It's his. The jar is over there with its lid.

hear, here
I hear that you were here yesterday.

lying, laying

She has lain on the couch for six hours.  Lay the pillow on the
couch next to her.  She's lying! She couldn't tell the truth if she
were on her death bed.  The plans were laid carefully.

was, were

I wish you were here.  She was here.

your, you're

You're sure sweet. I love your personality.
